Lamp developers engage the member, provide choices, provide assistance to get the job, and provide support to keep the job.
The Job Developer:
- Conducts a functional assessment.
- Identifies natural support in member’s life.
- Goes into the community (often with members) to meet employers.
- Brings back a number of job opportunities. If member is interested, help is provided by employment team and job developer to pursue the position:
1) resume writing
2) getting proper clothes
3) filling out applications
4) practice interviewing
5) transportation
6) and any other support that may be needed
- Follows up with the employer to answer questions and find out the outcome of the interview.
- Brings information back to the member and the team.
If the member gets the job, the job developer:
- Clarifies the job description to the member and team.
- Addresses any special needs the member has, and communicates with support person these needs (Examples: alarm clock, transportation, clothes, wake-up calls, hygiene, etc.)
- Designs a plan with the team for ongoing job coaching and support needs.
If the member does not get the job, the job developer:
- Gives the member feedback on why he/she wasn’t hired.
- Asks the member their view on the experience: "Did you learn anything that you could improve for next time."
- Makes any changes in plan to get another job.
- Tries again.
